How we helped to ensure integration to the Alzheimer’s disease pathway

The challenge

Our client wanted to understand how best to engage with and support imaging centers and radiologists to ensure they are integrated in the Alzheimer’s disease care pathway and identify how this engagement and support might differ across imaging centers and radiologists.

The solution

We conducted 39 web-enabled telephone-depth interviews with Radiologists and Radiology Administrators. The discussion guides for Radiologists and Admins followed a similar flow, with questions tailored to each stakeholder.

  • Respondent and facility profiling: Primary practice setting, patient base, decision makers and the capabilities of the image center and its drivers for expansion
  • Awareness and impressions: Perceptions of new therapies for AD and feelings about taking on a new care pathway
  • Care pathway walkthrough: Diagnostic process of AD, referrals, technologies in place, how facilities will handle influx of procedures and expansion decision
  • ARIA: Knowledge and experience of  ARIA, comfort in reading scans to analyse support required for staff
  • Wrap up and looking ahead: Motivations to be part of treatment pathway, impact on current capacity of facility, factors that what would trigger fast adoption

The outputs

Final strategic recommendations were developed by considering all elements of the research. We delivered a structured report helping our client to understand:

  • Current landscape of imaging centre clinical and operational structure in relation to an amyloid beta targeted therapy
  • Impressions and impact of amyloid beta targeted therapy and potential need for diagnostic AD confirmation
  • Impressions and impact of amyloid beta targeted therapy and need for MRI monitoring
  • Current familiarity and clinical decision making/operational impact of ARIA
  • Customer segments among imaging centers and radiologists
