Case study: How research supported the design of a support console to drive new product uptake

The challenge
Our client was developing a console system to support a new ophthalmology drug delivery system. They wanted to carry out research in order to discover physicians’ suggestions for the current prototype console and the potential barriers and drivers that may affect uptake, prior to initiating full development of the system.

The challenge
Our client was developing a console system to support a new ophthalmology drug delivery system. They wanted to carry out research in order to discover physicians’ suggestions for the current prototype console and the potential barriers and drivers that may affect uptake, prior to initiating full development of the system.

The solution
A qualitative approach was utilised in order to focus on the exploration of the key criteria.
Mini-groups were held in Germany, Italy and the US with ophthalmologists, in order to generate creative input into the design of the console and to understand reactions to the concept. In total,10 mini-groups were conducted across the markets with respondents working together to design an optimum console system.

The outputs
We provided information on which features the physicians would like the product to have in the console. In particular physicians appreciated a system that would reduce their workload but we also identified 4 very clear categories of physicians’ needs, in order to help steer system development and aid planning for launch.
