Patient Centricity: Turning Rhetoric into Reality

As patients become increasingly involved in their own health and healthcare systems demand more evidence of outcomes, pharmaceutical organisations have been moving towards a business model that puts patients at the heart of everything they do.

However is this transformation working? A patient-centric model demands huge investment and a company-wide commitment to putting patient wants and needs first during all stages of healthcare delivery, from drug discovery through to long-term disease management.  

Market research consultants Claire Richardson and Mariel Metcalfe discuss the value of patient centricity, where the industry is now and whether market research can better support the drive towards achieving it. They provide insights and experiences from pharmaceutical organisations regarding their current practices – including examples of where patient understanding has positively impacted brands as well as where it is falling short. Claire and Mariel look at the challenges pharma faces and investigate what market research can do to help overcome them. Finally, they investigate the impact pharma’s patient-centric model is likely to have on the people it’s meant to affect – patients – as well as physicians trying to treat them.
