On this year's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Jan. 16, 2012), the US office of the Research Partnership celebrated by joining up with volunteers from Greater Philadelphia Cares to help clean up urban neighborhoods. Volunteers were at multiple locations throughout the city, with our office being assigned a local park that needed some beautifying. Although the middle of winter, it was a beautiful day with very mild temperatures, perfect for some outdoors cleaning. The team set out with rakes and brooms, clearing walkways, the basketball court and community area of leaves and debris. By the end of the day the local park was litter free and looking rejuvenated.
With dozens of garbage bags full at the end of the day, The Greater Philadelphia Cares organizers were very thankful for our help and thought the park looked amazing.
Since the project this year was such a success, we plan to make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day our annual day of service and look forward to more opportunities to work with our community, taking time to give back.
