Gunther Meert

Job title: Associate Director
Location: London office

Hi, my name is Gunther and I am an Associate Director for The Research Partnership, working in the London office.

Why did you join The Research Partnership?

I had heard positive things about the company from ex-colleagues who were familiar with RP, saying RP does high quality work and has a great company culture.

What are your main responsibilities?

As an Associate Director my main responsibilities are project management, managing a team of researchers and sales.

What is an average day for you like?

There isn’t really an average day, as each day is different. My days are either spent in the office or travelling. In the office, an average day could involve a few meetings with teams on each of my projects to discuss where we’re at and if there are any issues. The rest of the day can be taken up by reviewing documents, such as discussion guides or presentations, answering emails from clients and from colleagues/team members and keeping in touch with clients I am not currently working with to see if they have any work coming up.
A travel day would involve arriving early at the airport to catch a flight if I am travelling in the morning to watch research in the afternoon and evening in a European country, land in that country and get a taxi to a viewing facility, watch 6-8 interviews, finish in the evening and either go to the hotel to sleep or take the client out for dinner. The next day, travel back to the office in the morning or travel to another city to watch more interviews.

What are you working on right now?

A study looking at the treatment for atrial fibrillation, a study looking at the treatment of mantle cell lymphoma and a study looking into hospital acquired infections. We have also just kicked off a study about anaemia.

What is the best thing about your job?

The variety: each day is different and each project is different. I work on different therapy areas and on both qualitative and quantitative research projects. I also like the fact that I’m not in the office every day sitting behind a desk in front of a computer.

What does the future have in store for you?

I am happy with my current position of Associate Director at RP. My current role suits me, as I like the variety. I enjoy managing projects, as I like the challenge and get satisfaction from seeing a project come to completion with a happy client. I enjoy managing a team of people, both as a team leader and on projects, as I find training and watching people progress rewarding. I also enjoy the buzz of being sent a request for a proposal by clients and an even bigger buzz when that study is commissioned!

What would you say to anyone seeking a position at The Research Partnership?

If you’re a graduate or a research executive, The Research Partnership has a very good training programme which will give you a great foundation for your future career in this industry. For anyone at any level, RP has a supportive company culture. Some projects can be quite challenging, but if you work with colleagues who are intelligent and maintain a sense of humour then it makes working life that much easier - and you will find this at RP.
